Summer Swap Shop

Swap
Every summer my girlfriends and I have a tradition of gathering with a few personal, lightly used items of Jewelry, Clothing, Books, Shoes, Bags, CDs, etc... and swapping with each other! It has come to be known as the SUMMER SWAP SHOP! This year was a smaller-scaled swap due to me having a new baby and getting ready to go back to North Carolina to film the final season of One Tree Hill.

Mad Men season 1 was soundless on the tv, while a personalized playlist took care of music (including, Bebel Gilberto, The Amelie Soundtrack, the French Kiss soundtrack, Patty Griffin, Ella Fitzgerald and more...). The gals came over around 6 and we mixed drinks & chatted until swapping started around 7-ish. There was a spirit of generosity in the air as all the girls were happy to let someone else try on an item they'd been eyeing. There was even an impromptu mini makeover with a friend who'd been shy about wearing bright colors and experimenting with makeup & hair.

On the Menu:
Sushi (a last minute grab from the grocery store, but yummy nonetheless)
French Macaroons (from Papa Hadyn in Portland)
Grasshopper cookies and Frosted Animal Crackers
2 Amy's Pizza's (Roasted Veggie)
1 California Pizza Kitchen BBQ Chicken Pizza
Large bowl of Berries with Homemade Whipped Cream

For Drinks:
Rum
Vodka
Tonic
Grenadine, OJ, Cranberry, and Dirty Water (olive juice)
Stuffed Olives, Cherries, Limes & Lemons
Personal mini Martini shakers

My Personal Favs from the Swap:
Dirty Martini
Sea Salt & Caramel Macaroons
California Rolls
Swapping for a cute, sheer, white button-up with red honeybees on it
Watching Joan Holloway saunter across screen in Mad Men

At the end of the evening, all the gals helped clean up and the leftover clothes went to the local Salvation Army drop spot. Great night, good food, weird drinks, and fun clothes.

Does any of you have traditions with your friends every summer?  I think it sounds like a lot of fun! Music, make-up, clothing, great food, great drinks and girlfriends.. That is summer! I like this!

  1. I do have some summer traditions! Like, every summer me and my friends would go to the store and buy all the CD's we could carry. . . and then listen all day.
