Bravo!
Bravo to People Magazine this week for three wonderful human-interest stories...
When I was a kid, PEOPLE was the go-to mag for human-interest topics and uplifting news. The last 10 years or so I have noticed a considerable decline in substance and an increase of celebrity gossip and tabloid-worthy material (see prior blog The American Gossip Epidemic)
This week, I picked up my first copy of People in years because the three cover stories looked positive-- Kate Middleton's fashion (for fun), Jordin Sparks amazing body transformation, and Gabrielle Gifford's recovery.
Inside, I was pleasantly surprised to see three interesting stories that weren't about celebrities or body image, but were just about inspiring people.
Gabrielle Gifford's Recovery by Jill Smolowe & Champ Clark - The Arizona Congresswoman is getting better every day after being shot in the head.
Healing the Wounds of Slavery by Wendy Grossman & Alicia Dennis - Descendants of slaves and their owners trace their roots, find each other and replace hatred with friendship.
and A Journey in Healing by Lorenzo Benet - a Non-profit, outdoor adventure camp for young adults struggling with cancer.
Here is a link to the Healing the Wounds of Slavery article.
