Summer Cold
Well, I've got a damn cold.
Unfortunately, there's no moping around the house for a Mom with a million things to do. So, I thought I'd share with you all some of the things that make me feel better when I'm sick. Maybe you'll find them useful the next time you're under the weather...
OPTI- BIOTIC & DR. SCHULTZ Cold and Flu remedies...
The Opti-Biotic is a holistic version of medical anti-biotics. Though not as strong, these little pills, taken every two hours at the onset of a cold can prevent it from blowing up full-force, or taken during a cold, can speed up recovery time drastically. Beside the Opti-Biotic are some "health help" favorites around our house. Dr. Schultz Cold & Flu "shot", Echinacea Tonic and Super Tonic. Visit DR.SCHULTZ website for details. The guy's totally cheesy, but his products work. And by "work" I mean WORK!
Next up are a few selections from "Traditional Medicinals" (which happened to be started by an Aunt of my sister-in-law's). These yummy teas can be found in most grocery stores, but definitely at your local health food market.
Heated Rice Packs abound in the Galeotti household. These homemade little shoulder warmers work for everything from cramps to snuggling with extra warmth in bed. I particularly like them after a long day at work or when I'm feeling sick. Very comforting.
SELF TANNER is a great way to cover up a red nose and it takes away that green stay-away-from-me-I'm-sick look. I love Adonia bronzing serum and mix it in with my moisturizer every morning.
A generations-old family secret on my Mom's side... To cure insomnia or for help sleeping when you're all stuffed up (works great for babies too) place a bowl of freshly chopped onions beside the bed. I know it sounds koo-koo but trust me!
Also...
- GET DRESSED! You'll feel a million times better if you don't lounge around in your pajamas all day!
- TAKE A SHOWER with some essential oils! Shake a bottle of Eucalyptus oil around your shower and let the steam open up your sinuses.
- EAT WELL. If you eat shit all day, you'll feel like shit.... just sayin'.
- GO OUTSIDE. With a Summer cold, at least it's beautiful outside. The vitamin D in sunlight may be just what you need.
- WORK OUT. If you can muster up the strength, and have time for a nap afterward, a mild workout will boost your endorphins.
- LAUGH. Another endorphin boost and, if nothing else, at least you'll be in a good mood.
- HAVE SEX. We're still talking endorphins, here... and if you're partner doesn't mind your stuffy nose :)
- CLEAN UP. If you've got the strength to take 15 minutes and straighten up the house, which is undoubtedly a mess due to your feeling slobbish, you will find you feel more peaceful and able to rest.
Hope this helps any of you who are suffering too!
