The Blessing of Blindness.

Posted on BJG official:

Hi everyone! (no word on my necklace, yet, for all of you who've been asking) I'm glad to be back in Washington for the spring! Michael and his brothers went up to snowboard in Mt Hood today and I've been enjoying the quiet here on a rainy Sunday. The restaurant is doing well, but it can always do better, so we're planning a menu renovation for the spring/summer. Also, we're under construction next door to build a catering/event space! You guys, this place used to be a vampire-themed arcade that was selling drugs to teens and, by the grace of God, we were able to take over the lease! It's still in pretty bad shape but we have some beautiful plans for the space and I'll be sure to share them with you all as soon as we have our sketches ready. I'm so excited!!
So, I've been thinking lately about how limiting our vision is... like, our literal vision. I was thinking how much more we can see with our eyes closed. Our imagination can run, we are suddenly able to hear the heart of friends without being distracted by the things about them that annoy us, we can hear God speak more clearly because we aren't focused on anything tangible. We are so easily stimulated, especially in this day and age of electronics and advertisement-- I used to get headaches driving down the Sunset strip in LA because of all the billboards! I felt the massive advertising agenda was invading my mind! Like getting a phone call from the Newspaper peddlers during dinnertime-- You can't get away from it!
I want to be intentional about closing my eyes more often. It takes patience to do this-- sometimes courage, because it can force you to deal with your demons, it takes focus to stay there because there are a million things on your mind. But what a blessed peace it can bring in the middle of a busy day, or an argument, or boredom!
Ask yourself what things in your life are limited by your vision? And in what ways can you choose the blessing of blindness?
