Joy - "20 questions with Torrey DeVitto"

FRIDAY, AUGUST 19, 2011

Were you named after anyone? Yes, Torrey is my moms maiden name.
Do you like your own handwriting? Not really. I wish it was more elegant and romantic looking.
What would your superpower be if you could choose one? Read minds. I always pride myself on being pretty intuitive and would love to be able to really hear what people are thinking to see just how right (or wrong) I really am!
Are you an Optimist or Pessimist? I am an pessimist with the most optimistic views.

What do you collect? Nothing. I used to collect pins from around the world when I was a little kid. I had this jean jacket that I wore all the time that I would stick my pins on. The entire front was covered on both sides and most of the back! One night when we were at a wedding rehearsal in Manhattan, someone broke into our car and one of the things they took was my little jean jacket. After that I swore I would never collect anything ever again. It totally scarred me for life.
What movie would your friends be surprised that you like? I really dont think there is much that I could do or say anymore that would surprise or shock any of my friends. But I suppose the last one that I have watched more than once and loved that caused some of them to crinkle their brows towards me was 'Burlesque'.
What are your favorite smells? Gardenia bushes and orange blossoms.
Coffee or Tea? Depends on the day, depends on the mood.
Wine or Beer? Wine. All the way.

What is the best thing you've ever eaten? (Where?) There are too many to choose from! One of my favorite things to do is to try new restaurants and eat amazing food with my friends and family. So, I dont think there has ever been one BEST thing.

Mac or PC? Once you go MAC you never go back.

What are you listening to right now? I have had Melody Gardot in my head all day.
What career would you pursue in another life? Funeral director/Funeral home owner. I do hospice work and outside of acting it is what I feel most comfortable doing.
What sound or noise to you love? Foot steps. Particularly on gravel, but any kind of footsteps really.
What sound or noise do you hate? The squeaking noise a towel makes when its too stiff! It makes my entire body cringe!
Mountains or Beach? Mountains.
Cook or Bake? Well, I dont do either particularly well but baking is definitely more enjoyable for me. I love getting to lick the bowls and spoons of everything I make (or attempt to make).
Do you go to restaurants and movies by yourself? Yes. I frequent both solo. Restaurants more then movies. I love taking myself and a book to a good restaurant or cafe and just tuning everything else out.
What is your favorite fairy tale or childhood story? Millions of cats by Wanda Gag. My mom used to recite it to me when I was little. I loved the tone of her voice when she was telling that story, it is something I will never forget.
What would you tell the 13 year old you? That it really does get better. That all these people who make you feel insignificant at the moment one day will just be a fleeting memory. Hang in there! Oh and, think twice again before trying to cut bangs into your wavy hair while living in one of the most humid states in the country! :)

Torrey and I became friends while filming One Tree Hill where she played psycho "Nannie Carrie" in season 5. Her character was hated by millions but behind the scenes Torrey is incredibly sweet, gracious and down-to-earth (a difficult feat for a woman this beautiful & privileged). Before One Tree Hill, Torrey played Daphne Zuniga's daughter on the ABC Family drama "Beautiful People", and can now be seen on Pretty Little Liars, a scrumptious little whodunit for the same network. But acting is only the tip of the iceberg for Torrey. She is also an accomplished violinist (and by "accomplished" I mean she played violin on Stevie Nicks record IN YOUR DREAMS among others), and a great photographer. I have one of her pieces hanging in my daughter's room, in fact, and you can pop over to her shop on Etsy if you'd like your own. And in addition to all these hats, she now wears "Wife" as she recently married Vampire Diaries star (and an old pal of mine) Paul Wesley. Keep your eye out for this gal, she's sure to bring a torrent of talent wherever she goes, and knowing she's such a wonderful person will make you root for her all the more...
